ABOUT The Maestro
Ravi Tripathi
An Indian percussionist from Varanasi (Benares, India), plays the tabla, the most well known Indian percussion of India.
Early Training and Influences:
- Ravi’s musical journey began under the guidance of his older brother, Vikas Tripathi.
- Currently, his teacher is the renowned Pandit Kishan Ramdohkar. Ramdohkar is celebrated in India for accompanying top-tier artists, including vocalists, sitarists, and other classical instrumentalists. Notably, he is also an accomplished solo tabla artist—a rare combination of skills.
- Ravi follows the “Gharana” tradition of his native town, Varanasi. This tradition is known for its dynamic and creative approach to music, closely linked with dance and Pakhawaj styles.
Performance Highlights:
- Ravi has performed extensively across India, including cities like Delhi, Rishikesh, Gorakhpur, Mau, and Mumbai (among others) in Uttar Pradesh.
- His musical journey extended beyond India, with performances in Russia, Europe (France, Switzerland, Spain, Italy), Israel, and Thailand.
- Collaborations: Ravi has shared the stage with Pt. Shibdas Chakraborty (sarod player) and various Western musicians, such as Kristian Holvilla (Sweden), Lobo Marino band (America), Ensambel Gollah (Israel), and Sebastian Lacroix (France).
Composer and Band Member
- Ravi wears multiple hats—he is not only a performer but also a composer.
- He is part of the band “Fusedhead” from Noida.
- Additionally, Ravi leads his own band called “Indicia,” which has gained popularity on YouTube. They create original compositions, write lyrics, and produce their music.
Recordings:
- Ravi’s talent extends to studio recordings. Notably, he contributed to two albums: “In Dios” by Kristian Holvila (Sweden) and “The Sounds of Varanasi” by Sardjan Bronja (ARC Productions, England).
Let us go forward in this battle fortified by conviction that those who labour in the service of a great and good cause will never fail.
