About Baba School of Music
A Professional Indian Classical Music School in Varanasi
Baba School of Music is a professional tabla and Indian classical music school based in Varanasi, India — a city officially recognized for its musical heritage, home to the Banarasi Tabla, which holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag protecting its authenticity. Teaching since 1995, we train students in the 200-year-old Banaras Gharana tradition, one of the most respected schools of tabla playing in Hindustani classical music.
At Baba School of Music, you can learn tabla or any other Indian classical music instrument online, offline, or from anywhere in the world — or if you prefer, you can come to Varanasi and experience in-person, hands-on learning. Our training is built for every level, from complete beginners to advanced musicians preparing for professional performance.
The Baba School of Music is Founded by tabla artist Ravi Tripathi and guided by the teachings of his guru, Pandit Kishan Ramdohkar, the school has become a trusted choice for local students in Varanasi, learners across India, and international and foreign students who travel to Varanasi specifically to study tabla, sitar, sarangi, sarod, harmonium, pakhawaj, tanpura, flute, and violin under experienced teachers rooted in the traditional Guru-Shishya method.
We combine authentic classical training rooted in this centuries-old tradition with modern online classes, so students who cannot travel to India can still learn tabla online with a real teacher, while those visiting or living in Varanasi can experience hands-on, in-person lessons at our school.
